Considerable achievement
As part of the services offered by the e-puertobilbao telematics platform, the Port Authority of Bilbao, in conjunction with the new Border Inspection Post facilities at the Port of Bilbao, has introduced a new computer application to coordinate container placing.
This application allows all the actors that intervene in inspections – customs agents, forwarders, shipping agents, transport companies, inspection services, customs clearance and BIP agents – to know at any time, which containers are going to be inspected as well as the place, time and date of the inspections. This allows operations to be planned, which in turn, means that there will be much more flexibility in the passing of goods subject to inspection.
Thanks to the fine harmony among all the entities concerned, the launching of the new application has been successful from the perspectives of speed, participation and effective introduction. More than 95% of the participating actors used the new service on the first day it was put into operation, which was a considerable achievement, bearing in mind that for many, it was their first contact with e-puertobilbao.
The Port Authority is confident that these tools for enhancing the BIP management, together with the excellent present-day facilities, will enable inspections to be carried out efficiently and in accordance with the line of expansion and strategic positioning of the Port of Bilbao.
