In the presence of a large representation of logistics-port companies of Bilbao, the Bilbao Port Authority presented a new solution for customers and users of the e-puertobilbao electronic commerce platform. This consists of a new service designed to offer telematics support for delivery and acceptance interchange information among shipping agents, terminals, depots, road and rail transport companies and forwarders.
The coming into operation of this service begins a new stage marked by a technological renovation in hardware and software. Six years after coming into service, renovation has become a reality in the form of a hardware platform that is five times more powerful and in improved Internet access. In fact, access volume has been doubled, following two independent channels each with its own supplier. This stage started on 17 April this year, when the Bilbao servers were turned off, and the new ones at Santurce came into use.
This service will allow traffic to be rationalized and will speed up gate and stevedoring terminals management in the Port. If the pre-notification service is added together with the use of the licence-plate scanner, the means of transport can enter almost immediately without any other checks.
In addition, transport information is electronically transmitted to other participating agents, such as road and rail land transport companies, depots and forwarders, thus avoiding errors and queues. All the transport stages can also be correctly managed.
This service incorporates both gate and terminal management, and so it includes a traceability function that enables container position inside the port area to be known. Consequently, a further step has been made towards the paper-free port while adding transparency, expediency and security for container goods passing through the Port of Bilbao.
The final aim is to manage the port entry and exit scenario of goods by land with the help of telematics tools – a scenario that came into operation with entry pre-notifications and with paper-free export clearance, and which now incorporates Delivery/Acceptance. At present, work is being carried out on the definition of the service for port entry and exit by rail and the transport order service.
a further step towards the paper-free port
Then, e-puertobilbao will offer 100% multimodal services cover with the maritime part integrated into the road and rail land part. From thereon, the platform will be opened to the hinterland with integrating services with logistics activities zones that serve the Port and the foreland with services enabling integration with strategic shipowners and port platforms or markets for the Port of Bilbao.
